ATHLETES:

Special Olympics Team Plano offers a variety of sports for athletes. To compete in Special Olympics, an athlete must be at least eight years old and identified as having intellectual disabilities, or functional limitations in both general learning and in adaptive skills.

To enroll, contact  Mickey Niemotka   (972) 596-2487  . Athletes are required to have a current medical release form on file with each coach they play for.

COACHES:

We invite coaches to volunteer in one sport or move seasonally from sport to sport with the athletes. Knowledge of the sport is not a requirement, we provide all the training necessary to be successful. Just relax and have fun!

VOLUNTEERS:

“Volunteers are not paid – not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.”

Thank you for your interest in Special Olympics Team Plano – we can certainly use your help! Volunteers are the backbone of this team; so on behalf of the athletes, thank you for your interest and commitment. We have volunteers who work with Special Olympics athletes throughout the year, and others who help out occasionally.

What does a volunteer do?
You name it, you do it! Plano Special Olympics Team is a volunteer-driven team, which means that we need volunteers for just about everything. Volunteers can assist at events, coach athletes, help with fundraising, coordinate events, serve on committees and so much more!

Who can volunteer?
Individuals, groups, families… anyone can volunteer! Volunteers ages 14 and younger are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or adult volunteer.

We have two types of volunteers:
Class A – An opportunity that involves having close physical contact with athletes on a regular basis or being in a position of authority, supervision and trust with athletes and within the team.
Class B – A short-term opportunity providing assistance and support at a competition or social event.
